A heads-up from Dendera: in June it came out that the character portraits in the free prologue had been made with generative AI, along with some of the promotional material. The studio took it to its Steam forum on 9 June, said they were early versions that slipped in by mistake and promised to replace them with hand made ones, although that update has not shipped yet. On 21 August it confirmed again that everything going into the game is made by people, and Patrice Désilets apologised in the press. The free prologue is no longer on Steam, and it had 3,966 reviews at 56% positive.
Patrice Désilets, the man who directed the first Assassin's Creed, had his studio bought out and the game he was making taken from him. Thirteen years later he is releasing it himself. You play Noa, a witch in 17th century Amsterdam hunting the Originals, ancient beings hiding among people. Investigate by day, hunt by night. Underneath it works like a roguelike: powers are drawn at random per contract and you lose them when you die.
